Hello residents of Second Island! It’s been a while since our last post. Things have been a little bit hectic here at Second Island with the new changes of Open Space sims, but we’re finally getting back on track!

Second Island now has a headquarters sim where ALL Second Island residents and their friends are welcome to play and have fun! Special thanks to Kaio Obviate, Claudinha Akina and Kal Rau for bringing this vision to life with their hard work and creative experience!

The headquarters includes the executive offices of the Second Island Staff, a cinema, some open water to swim in, lovely beaches, a swimming pool, basketball court, Second Island School and a lounge/club! You can check out Second Island Headquarters by clicking here.

We are planning on implementing some more helpful and useful features to this sim to make Second Island’s residents lives easier, so stay tuned for more changes and information!

The lounge club, tentatively named “Fusion Lounge” will be holding events, parties and special genre nights! This is YOUR club, so if there is anything you would specifically like to see happen as far as events go, please let us know! We are also looking for residents interested in DJing and Open Mic performing. If you would like to be added as a DJ, please contact Megz Ling for more information!

Thank you for your time and feedback in advance! If there is anything you would like to see on this sim, let us know!

See you in world!

At some point in our lives, we have all thought it would be neat to be like Siegfreid and Roy and have our very own white bengal tiger. Or maybe a panther. In Second Life, all of our dreams can become reality, and owning our very own exotic pets is one of them!

There are a few places in Second Life that cater to these whims. Many of these SL pets have commands like sit, stay, follow and attack. Another option many of these SL pets have is ROAM. Roaming means that you select an option for the prim pet to walk around in a given amount of area, such as 5, 10 or 25 meters. These animals can add great effect to your parcel…I mean..who wouldn’t want their very own panther guarding their land right?

There is a problem with these animals, however. If you do not use your prim pet in a wide (and I mean WIDE) open space, with no prims interfering, it can cause extreme lag issues in your sim. I know it can be against human nature to listen to the directions, but in this case, it is true! So, if you have a prim pet, please make sure it is either sitting or sleeping while you aren’t using it to avoid repeated collisions with other prims.

Another problem is that these animals do not know the shape of your land parcel. They can enter into your neighbor’s parcel and use up their prim count. It’s common courtesy and practice unless a prior arrangement has been made to keep your prims to yourself and contained in your own parcel. So again, we ask that you please take some care when using these objects.

The reason we are addressing this issue is, we have had a number of lag complaints from different Second Island residential and commercial sims. Out of the last 3 complaints received by one of our Estate Managers, 3 were caused by these prim animals. So please, take time and consideration when using these animals and be sure to follow the advice of the creators in the information notecards. Use these animals in wide open spaces with no prims interfering and please put them in sleep or sit mode when not in use. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding with this matter and hope that asking you to be a responsible “pet owner” is an easy solution for everyone.

Thank you for taking the time to read this blog entry and we wish you a great week!

Second Island is happy to offer peaceful, beautiful land to it’s clients and we try to stay away from personal decisions regarding our residents’ land. However, recently we have noticed an increase in the use of general ban lines banning everybody except certain allowed persons from residents’ land parcels.

Second Island STRONGLY discourages the use of banlines because if two parcels are close together, it can create an undesireable effect for the neighbor of the person banning everyone from their parcel.

Please review this section of Second Island’s covenant:

“Ban lines are not welcome! They block all the way and stop other people from transiting through the Island. Instead of using the ‘access’ tool, we encourage you to use the ‘ban’ one. Using ban, you will only block access from unwanted people, when using access totally blocks entrance from people to your territory, creating lots of difficulties in the navigation, within the islands; Very aggressive Security Systems are not allowed in Second Island regions. Security Systems that remove (teleport) users without previous warning are considered aggressive and not allowed. You must configure your system to give a warning and wait at least 10 seconds before taking action.”

We ask that due to a wave of recent complaints from residents, that you do NOT use general banning methods using your land controls. Instead, we ask that you try using a security system that fits the description of allowed systems in the covenant. We know that it is unfair to ask residents of Second Island to use a system without offering one to them, so, Sparkym Klees (Second Island’s Security Manager) has been able to find a good security that we can offer to you for free! We will be distributing these in the coming days and if you do not receive one, please IM Kaio Obviate, Megz Ling, Cezar Boram or Sparkym Klees for a copy.

We hope you take your neighbor’s comfort into consideration when making the decision of who is allowed on your land. Many residents enjoy flying around their home sim in vehicles or just as their avatars. Some residents also enjoy a drive around their sims in automobiles. These are all things we hope our residents can continue to enjoy while they are living on Second Island sims. Remember, your neighbors are paying tiers as well, so it’s highly unlikely they are interested in using your land while you’re not around.

We appreciate your cooperation in this matter and we would like to avoid changing the covenant to add a “No Ban Lines” rule. Please take the time to try the security system we can offer to you before setting banlines.

Thank you and have a wonderful week!

Hello Residents of Second Island! We believe in communicating all changes with Second Island to the residents. There is a new clause in the covenant regarding joining and dividing land parcels and also for moving tierboxes. We have received quite a few requests from our residents to perform these services. As Second Island expands, the staff promises to maintain and hopefully surpass the customer service currently provided to our residents. However, just as our resident’s time is valuable, ours is also. We have had a number of residents ask the staff to change their land boundaries multiple time. So we will now be charging a service fee of L$1500 to join and divide land and to move tierboxes.

If you contact a staff member of Second Island in-world or through our ticket system regarding a land change, the staff member assigned to the case will perform the services requested and for the time being, you will pay that staff member the service charge. This policy of paying the staff is subject to change as we are working on a more efficient and convenient way for residents to make payments to Second Island.

We thank you for your cooperation and also for choosing Second Island as your place to call home.

As stated in a previous blog entry, all residents using PayPal to pay their tier will be switching to an “in-world” tier payment system using a tier box. Unfortunately, an unforeseen problem has arisen. In converting the PayPal payment to the Linden currency, we saw that we would have to raise the tier of some parcels considerably. Second Island prides itself in maintaining a good relationship with it’s residents and to avoid any unfortunate changes involving the residents using PayPal, we have decided to take the loss and not raise the tiers to cover the Lindex fees.

In other words, when Second Island first switched all residents over to the new tier machines, the residents would have had to pay more money to cover the cost of tier using the tier boxes. We don’t want to do that, especially because doing so would be raising the cost of some residents tier considerably.

To sum it up, new tier amounts will be added to the tier boxes of residents who were using PayPal. These amounts will be exactly equal to what you were paying through PayPal. We are sorry for the inconvenience and we hope this resolves any issues or problems you may have with the new tier payment system.

Thank you and have a wonderful weekend!

Due to continued problems with PayPal, Second Island will be discontinuing using PayPal as a method of payment in paying your tier. There have been many uncleared payments as well as other technical issues involving PayPal.

In order to make it as easy and seamless as possible for the residents and staff of Second Island, tier boxes will be the only method of payment for tier on your Second Island land. Please see the previous blog about the new tier boxes for more information regarding this new system. To sum it up in a short sentence, all you will have to do is purchase L$ through LindeX and pay this box that will be placed on your land twice or once a month.

We know one of the biggest concerns for changing over to this system is the “increase” you pay from paying PayPal to buying L$. Well, just as a helpful hint, the more L$ you buy, the smaller the surcharges become for using LindeX. So we suggest that you buy a month’s worth of tier and hold it in your account until it is time to make your next payment. This will help you avoid some of the surcharges that come with using LindeX.

Currently the only residents paying with PayPal are in the following islands: Navi, Epona, Zora and Saria. If you live on these islands, your tier is L$2 per square meter per month. This should provide you with some assistance in calculating your new tier cost.

Again, Second Island thanks you for your cooperation. If you have any specific questions, please contact Kaio Obviate, Cezar Boram or Megz Ling for more assistance.

This blog is intended to keep the residents of Second Island informed, so please bookmark this page and check it often for any important news or updates about Second Island!

Hello residents of Second Island!

This blog entry does NOT pertain to you if you live on any of the Lakeview Islands.

Second Island is currently working on a new in-world tier payment system. Much like the current tier machines on your parcel, you will still be able to walk outside of your door and pay your tier. The only difference with these new boxes is that unlike your current tier machine, you can only make payments on a weekly basis. Currently, these tier boxes are set to the minimum payment being 2 weeks and maximum 8, so you would be able to pay your new tier box twice per month, once, etc. The change over will happen this week (January 27th- February 2nd) and the new tier machine will be a one prim box.

If you live in Epona, Navi, Ocarina Beach, Saria and Zora, you had 64 square meters cut from your parcel when the Second Island team placed the original tier machines on your land. With the new low prim machine, Second Island will be able to return 48 square meters of that land to your parcel, leaving the remaining 16 square meters for the tier machine. When your land is ready to be rejoined, we will inform you so you can buy it back for L$0.

Also, with the new tier boxes, your MAXIMUM “overdue” time is three (3) days. You will receive messages from the tier box if your tier is overdue. If you do not pay your tier within this time frame and we have no reponse from you letting us know what is happening, your land will be reclaimed by Second Island. If you decide to sell your land, please contact any of our admins immediately so we can switch the tier box to the new land owner’s name (this must be done manually by a Second Island Administrator).

We thank you for your cooperation and as always, we will keep you updated with any and all changes happening with Second Island. If you have any specific questions, please direct them to us in world or, for a faster reponse, go on our support by ticket system.

It’s that time of year again! The winter season and holidays have come to Second Life, and everyone at Second Island would like to wish the residents of SI a very happy holiday season! I’ve noticed residents decorating their land for Christmas and winter to celebrate the season! The creativity of the residents of SI never ceases to amaze me and just thought I would share a picture from Ocarina Beach. If you would like to show your neighbors YOUR winterized parcel on the blog, send me an IM in world! Happy Holidays from all of the Second Island Staff!
